Find the perfect musician for your wedding
Find the perfect musician for your wedding
Weddo is a music reservation app for weddings. It was created to help users find the perfect musician for their wedding.
Weddo connects couples with wedding musicians. They can view, contact, and book the musician right for their wedding.
Today, there is no service in Israel for showcasing, reviewing, contacting and booking a wedding musician. Engaged couples are searching for musicians in a word-of-mouth kind of way, and most musicians don’t have a platform to showcase their work.
The main user group identified is people in their 20’s-30’s, tech-literate.

Weddo is an easy-to-use, friendly platform which allows an end-to-end journey within minutes.
Weddo lets couples choose the ambiance and atmosphere for the guests accompanying them on their special day.

Interviews
My user study was centered around the most organic target audience for the hypothetical service: about-to-be-married individuals and couples, and people who married in the last decade.
The main user group that was identified is people in their 20’s-30’s, tech-literate. This made a lot of sense, as this is the age in which most people get married in Israel.
The first round of interviews confirmed my assumptions of the main problem - there is no service in existence for reviewing profiles of musicians who perform at weddings, contacting and booking them.
I interviewed 5 individuals who married recently. Based on the interviews, I've created 2 personas which were meant to simulate identified user groups from the aforementioned target group. After creating personas, I continued to build user stories, user journey maps, and problem statements in order to understand users better and feel more empathy towards them. I also conducted a competitive audit to find out what services are available and what are their strengths and weaknesses.
Later on, I conducted user testing. The user testing was conducted in an unsupervised manner, to reduce subject biases. It consisted of two stages of testing: Lo-fi and Hi-fi prototypes. Overall, 5 subjects were tested each round.
There is no index of professional wedding musicians in Israel (or, in fact, any index of musicians at all).
Many engaged couples use Facebook groups and word-of-mouth to get recommendations for a musician. Some of these musicians don’t have a portfolio to showcase work, making the booking a gamble of sorts.
Price transparency is something lacking when conversing privately with a musician. People I interviewed talked about a lack of trust between them and the vendor, and not knowing whether the vendor is giving a different price compared to other customers.
People planning their wedding are usually working individuals. Wedding planning takes time. Finding the right musician takes time, but less when all the information is in one place.
Based on the interviews I set up two personas, to which I referred throughout the entire product development process.
As an example case I'll discuss one persona - Gali.
Gali is a working mom who's remarrying and wants to find a musician she’ll love for her wedding, because her first wedding did not live up to her expectations.
I usually start the design process with paper wireframes. This is the way I look at many design options quickly.
Creating paper wireframes helped me understand how to start thinking about the pages’ structure.
I created an IA map of pages, and started thinking about what elements on which pages should take users to other pages.
Later on down the project, reflecting upon these sketches supported my design process.
Based on the paper sketches, I went on to design the user's interface with wireframes paradigm using Figma.
Initially, I planned ‘Weddo’ would be an app for most wedding services. This idea gradually became more and more difficult to realize with my limited resources. Therefore, I focused on the music part of the event.
I conducted user testing in order to find my design's weaknesses. I held 2 rounds of user testing (first Lo-fi and then Hi-fi) in order to reveal as many possible usability problems throughout the design process.
The subjects were participants new to the project, and had no prior knowledge of 'Weddo', since I wanted to test how first time users would experience the app, and therefore how intuitive it is.
My Lo-fi prototype taught me about my design’s weaknesses, the most noticeable being users had a hard time signing in to the app.
The method used was unsupervised user testing, to reduce subject biases.
I analyzed the information I collected from the user testings with affinity maps. Then, I identified patterns and drew insights. Those insights helped me better my design.
This way I added screens to the log-in process, making it clearer.
Below is an affinity map for the first round of user testing (Lo-fi).
Most users had issues understanding that sign-in is possible and crucial.
Most users navigated through the homepage to find profiles.
Some users mentioned a cancellation policy is crucial for their decision to book a vendor.
Design and texts needed to be clearer, as users found it to be confusing.
Booking add-ons are not clear and precise enough.
Dark mode could help accessibility.
Vendor's Profile Page
I wanted to soften the wedding planning experience, which could be very stressful for some, so I used a young, light visual style. As most main users will be young, this will (hopefully) suit them.
My Hi-fi prototype made ‘Weddo’ really come to life.
With more user testing, it became clear - the hierarchy had to be clearer, as well as the texts. This was achieved with tweaks to the negative space and typography.
Colors were tweaked for better accessibility: The initial color pallet was more vibrant and bright. That had to be toned down, in order to achieve accessible contrast.
A readable typeface was chosen: The typeface I chose is ‘Quicksand’; it's a sans-serif font, making it very readable.
Accessibility menu & text-to-speech: Finally, I created an accessibility menu for text readers and a high contrast mode. The input fields also have a text-to-speech option, marked by a mic icon.

Over 75% of users testing the app said they would have been happy to use ‘Weddo’ for their own wedding, and would have liked to see it being used for more aspects of wedding planning.
In this project I have learned a lot about the visualization of hierarchy. Going forward, I’m going to apply UI design principles right from the beginning. I’ll try to use no more than 4 font sizes throughout new projects, and also use a column grid and implied grid.
If I were to change anything, I would re-design the UI of ‘Weddo’ more tediously.
It’s my first project, and in hindsight there are many little UI-related things I would have done differently.
